"Brian's view of the shore" is my first website I've ever created. A fellow student in my "Technical communications" class (Fall/2012) at Saint Thomas did a presentation on "Blogging with Tumblr", and this stirred up my creative juices. So I went about getting acquainted with WordPress and started development of this website. The intent is for it to be more of a complete website and not just a blog. In case you just want to read my Blog, click on "Blog" on the Upper Menu Nav Bar, or click either of these following Links, otherwise, read … More about About BigB

My website, viewing my SmugMug pics & a 3rd party plug-in
Beware: this is a long and boring technical blog posting - if you're into using wordpress for blogging and also do photo sharing on your wordpress website, you might be 5% interested in this post - otherwise, you'll probably just think this is just another loony tunes post by yours truly, and should probably skip reading it. wink emoticon About a year ago, I moved from using … [More...]
Toastmasters Speech #3 – Inspire the audience!
I’ve been a late bloomer in some areas of my life: ok, a late bloomer in most areas of my life. But, a really late bloomer when it comes to my home life. I figure this was partly due to not having a father figure after high school, as well as not becoming a home owner until my mid 30’s. I never thought I had the skills to do homeowner type projects like the usual improvements … [More...]
Re-Reading “The Girl…Dragon Tattoo”, part 2
Hmm, an update to my Stieg Larsson ("The girl with the dragon tattoo") book reading. If you remember, I had already read the first two books around 4-5 yrs ago. Got a bit burned out after reading them back to back, and never went back to the final book of the trilogy. This was where I was about a month or so ago with my original post on this topic. Since then, I've now re-read … [More...]
Completely Mirrorless Camera Photog Now
FYI, fellow FB photographer friends: Over the summer and as of this past week, I've slowly gotten rid (via trade-in or selling) all of my DSLR camera equipment, and am now a bona fide "Mirrorless Camera ONLY" photographer (now having had my Mirrorless for the past 16 months). While I do not (yet) have the same quantity/style of lenses, I anticipate, over the next several … [More...]
Twin Cities Model Railroad Museum Closing?
TC MRR Museum closing article (open in new window) This is really unfortunate - I've been to this museum numerous times over the years, and actually took Lailah there last Christmas. I'm hoping they can find a way to stay there or find another place - but it would be a lot of work to move. You would think there would be some railroad/corporation (like BNSF, or Central Pacific) … [More...]
Listening to Herb Alpert (or…)
In the sixties, when I was a little kid, I was brought up listening to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - my dad had all their albums ("South of the border", "The lonely bull", "Going places", "A taste of honey", "Whipped cream and other delights", etc.), as well as the various hits by Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66. Never really gave any thought to where I picked up my love … [More...]
Supporting really old applications
Article on supporting really old computer programs (opens in a new window) Really interesting story about supporting a 60 yr old "computer application"...and not being able to find people that know the older programming languages [they mention Fortran, Assembly, even ALGOL.] I know that some of the code (programs) I wrote in the early to mid nineties are still running - … [More...]
Pandora and an irritating limitation
Pandora thinks one hundred stations is enough for a Pandora listener. I wonder if this was just an arbitrary decision by the developer (who, obviously doesn't like lots of different music/artists), or did someone actually say in 'The Requirements', "the maximum number of stations for each user should be 100" … [More...]

Star Trek Trivia (and a story about Lailah)
I once read that Doctor McCoy said "He's dead, Jim" lots of times through out the original series. Here is proof (according to someone geeky enough to count them), indicating he did say this phrase 22 times - an average of once every 3 or 4 episodes. By the way, in case you don't watch my Lailah videos (or haven't noticed while watching), I've been teaching her this … [More...]
first test post for Elyse category [using photonic gallery]
This is a first test post for Elyse - however we are also testing the "Photonic Gallery" Plug-in as well. Later on, I'll be adding a new full post regarding my Daughter Elyse and the story behind her, etc., at a later time. Let's hope Photonic works! new set here … [More...]
Job Hunting – Jostens
Last week on Tuesday, I posted something about two friends, true friendship, procrastination and "taking action". The action I took last week, produced no (immediate) results. Just learned a few hours ago that I was mistakenly given a wrong email addr. and the 3rd party is still looking forward to receiving from me. So, having just now resent my email, I am thinking I may … [More...]
Question on graduation form causes an issue
So. I'm sitting in class Friday evening, next to one of my project teammates, and she is filling out a Saint Thomas form, before the evening's lecture starts. I recognize the form since I filled it out myself in early Sept. - It's a declaration of your intention to graduate (she's filling it out a bit early since she apparently still needs one more class, spring term - no … [More...]
Star Wars vs. Star Trek
I'm not going to go into the "why" since it's a stupid (and long) story, but last night, I re-watched something called "Star Wars". I'm sure you may have heard of this film by now. If I had to guess I've probably not watched this movie in roughly ten yrs or more. To be frank, the movie last night was not the original version - this one was from a DVD (non blu-ray) collection … [More...]

Clear motivation to clean your home
Food for thought: There is no known more motivating power to clean (and tidy) your home than someone who proposes to hand deliver a dessert to your home. 🌋 🎁=🍎,🍒,(what, no emoticon for pie, really??) … [More...] about Clear motivation to clean your home
Miscellaneous thoughts and Sunrise photo
Random thoughts presented to you today by your <put your own flattering word here> blogger. === i woke up to the most brilliant sunshine ever this morning (as compared to doom and gloom of yesterday's lack of sun). Woke up a few days ago, about an hour or more earlier than my usual wake up time, looked out the window and saw this … [More...] about Miscellaneous thoughts and Sunrise photo
