2nd class at Saint Thomas: Software Engineering

First session of SEIS 610 Software Engineering was 2 weeks ago.  I was immedaitely impressed by our instructor (C. Lai).  He put up easy to read slides, and spoke toward them, not reading them word for word.  He spoke for the entire 6-1/2 hour class, giving us instruction on the term’s group project, and the first 2 assignments, as well as enlightening the class about a “new” (read: different) type of programming called “Genetic Programming”.  Very interesting topic.

The instructor isn’t boring so far, and seems to include some humor every now and then.  It’s a subtle, dry wit he has.

He’s indicated there will be 2 closed-book exams, and several assignments.  The term project is a programming project, but the majority of it will be doing the usual SDLC stuff, like writing the requirements document, the functional specification.  The program itself is semi-tricky, and I could whip it out in ALGOL, but going to have to find a couple of team mates who know how to really code in JAVA.

Keeping my fingers crossed – about this class.  Really excited so far.
