Bullying – Blog posting from Jason Lanier (professional photog)

I’m into photography, been into it since end of HS. I came across a professional photographer a few months ago who gives photography advice over YouTube. He has (to me) a great personality and knows what he’s talking about photography wise. I was just reading his blog and read this (recent?) posting, regarding what he calls “haters”, about people who leave (very) negative comments on his YouTube video postings. It’s quite an interesting read (a big longish for those not interested in the subject of bullying – sorry), but it opened my eyes, once again, on this subject – I personally do not understand these people that do this type of thing. Where do these people get all this hatred, who taught this behavior to them – their parents, their friends, who?? This is the kinda stuff that depresses me about this world we live in. Jason (the photographer) shares what he does when he encounters these people in his professional life (his professional life related YouTube channel, and his photography business-related FB page).

From my own personal dealings, I had one of these people as an FB friend (“person x”) but I didn’t “realize” it until a HS friend sent me a private message telling me they were unfriending me and their reason why: apparently they were tired of reading negativeness when “person x” responded to stuff I wrote about or shared, etc. I guess I have a thick skin and had never let “person x” negative comments get to me – but the comments got to my HS friend which then caused me to take action. After trying to share with “person x” that they could “tone it down a bit”, “person x” responded with “I personally don’t give a rat’s ass about what your HS friend has to say” – I then knew what I needed to do, and unfriended “person x”. I’m glad my HS friend spoke up.

Food for thought. Read this Blog posting from Jason Lanier if you have the time, and are interested in how to stop bullying when it’s coming from your social media.

As always, thank you for reading.

Brian.
