Internet down today: Model Railroading

Two more blog posts to do.

Second to last – as previously noted, my internet was down from late Thursday thru Saturday afternoon. The technician comes around my place at 3:30, worked on the outside box for quite some time. Finally comes to the door, introduces himself as a Charter employee, and we talk about my problem. He starts looking at the cabling, etc. In the meantime, he inquires “is that a model train in the next room?” “Yes, it is, are you into trains, too?” Yep, he says, but I don’t have any place to put mine yet, but I’m getting me a new place soon, and I’m gonna be building my very first one. I explain I know how it is, I told him I’ve been working on mine for several years, in fact, it had been sitting in the garage for the past several years until just recently, etc.

So, once again, my introverted self apparently has fallen asleep on the job, and while this guy is working, we continue to talk about model railroading.

Once he’s done with changing my wires, and performing his tests, he very politely asks whether he can take a look at it. “Of course you can” I say, and I lead him into the sun porch area where my small layout is. He can see it still needs a lot of work, but wants to know all about it, and asks some questions about scenery, etc. I mention the company that creates scenery materials, and apparently he’s not familiar with them, so I go into my den, and grab a catalog and say, here, you can have this to drool over, etc. He also wasn’t aware of Scale Model Supplies in STP, but has been to Hub Hobby in Richfield. I told him SMS has ten times more stuff.

On his way out, I gave him my business card, and told him to call me any time he wants to talk “trains”.

Wow.

Lol.
