A note to my good friend “Sam”

Sam,

Either this is a reminder, or maybe the first time I’ve shared this with you…

Sometime, during the 2009-2011 “Great Recession”, I somehow came across a story you wrote for a magazine. It was either a sailing mag or a vacation mag. Either way, I enjoyed what you wrote, and, (here is the part I want to emphasize), that story and knowing that you were the person that wrote it, inspired me to start writing my own stories, to write down my own experiences and share them with others. Obviously I’m not a great writer or even a really good writer, but with each story I tell, I enjoy the writing experience and for that, I thank you. You didn’t know it at the time when you wrote that sailing story that you would have an impact on a person’s life, but in my case, you did – I would assume I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed that story – but, because it was a magazine story, I bet it may have been hard for those readers of that magazine to contact the author to let you know how much they enjoyed reading your story (or maybe not – hopefully, others told you how much they enjoyed that story). In any case, I wanted to remind you today, I loved that story, and actually knowing a real, published “author” actually gave me the courage to start putting my own thoughts to paper.

Thank you DearHeart.

Brian.
