Bedroom lamps

Ok, in order to tell you tonight’s story, I have to fess up to something.

Yesterday was the second “day one” of the 21 day new habit challenge (for me to kick the FB habit). I made it thru all (ok, most) of yesterday without getting onto FB. I believe I used it on the bus in the morning, but I did not get on the blasted thing last night, not one iota. Thereby freeing up dozens, if not hundreds, of of quality time to do other “important” stuff. On the other hand, I wasn’t able to stay away today/tonight…

Now, here’s my story, totally unrelated to my fessing up, above.

Some background.

I would imagine you have a bed in your bedroom, just like I do. Then, I would imagine, if you’re co-occupying that bedroom, you probably have two nightstands, and maybe two lamps, one on each side.

Sometimes the lamps are a matching pair, sometimes not.

My lamps match each other.

It’s an OCD thing.

Lol.

Well, I used to co-occupy my bedroom, but they moved out about four years ago. Right around that time, the lamp on their former side of the bed went on the fritz. The doohickey you turn to switch on the light somehow got stripped. No matter how many times you turned it, it wouldn’t switch on.

No big deal. I know how to fix that. I went off to the local Menards (or HD), and bought a new lamp light socket, for a few $$.

The new lamp socket has been sitting on the nightstand near that lamp, waiting to be installed now for close to four years.

You see, I still had the lamp on my side of the bed, and I usually don’t sleep on the other side so I never took the time to install the new lamp socket.

Mr. Procrastinator strikes again.

Monday night, I come into the bedroom, and switch on the lamp on my side of the bed (both sides are now “technically” mine, but, let’s go with the flow here, shall we?)

The lamp switch does nothing. It has lost its grip like the other lamp did four yrs ago.

I now only have a ceiling light, which is just too stark for me to use in the evening and I usually only use it when getting ready in the morning, and a goose neck light on the far side but that one too is just too harsh to use as a reading lamp.

My first thought, was, gosh, I need to go to Menards and get me a new lamp socket. So, mentally, I made myself a note to go to Menards after coming home from work yesterday.

Never made it there – the old noggin forget about the mental note, and I just drove home from the bus station.

Today, I worked from home and toward the end of the day, as I walked into the bedroom, I realized I should really go to the store to pick up the lamp socket. However, by this time, it’s dark out, and the big guy does NOT like to go out at night, in the dark.

Especially this close to the Great Pumpkin holiday.

Who knows what is out there, waiting to eat my brains??

So, as I’m telling myself to just put the errand off to tomorrow, the brain kicks in and…

a little voice says…

“Hey DumSh*t, you already have a new lamp socket sitting on the left nightstand, WAITING for you to install. It DOESN’T MATTER if it’s intended for the left side lamp, it can be USED for the lamp on the right side nightstand just as well!”

——

You gotta remember, I almost flunked HS forty years ago, almost flunked out of college – I, as they say, am not the “brightest lamp on the nightstand.”

——

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Have a good evening. I’m shutting off FB, and won’t be back on it until the morning.
