Watching “All the president’s men” – part two

Well, if you’ve been reading my posts tonight, you will know I’m watching “All the President’s men”. Here is something that occurred to me as I’m watching (I’m about ninety minutes into it, and have about 45 mins left). Follow me while I walk you through this.

Most of us all know ”Watergate” all started one evening in June, 1972. It took two yrs for “everything” to come out, and for President Nixon to realize that he would need to resign (August, 1974). “All the President’s men” (the book) however, came out in June of that yr – before the resignation. Woodward, and Bernstein later wrote a sequel book called “The final days” in May of ‘76. The movie I’m watching, based on the first book came out sometime in 1976 – a short four yrs after the initial event (the Watergate Burglary).

My “ah ha” thought is, some day, in the relatively near future, we may be seeing a movie made of the “recent” (and near future) events in D.C., starting sometime around June, 2015 (i.e., Mr. Trump’s candidacy announcement), or, maybe around Spring, 2016 (the start of the presidential primaries)l and continuing thru whenever these events get resolved (in whatever manner).

It’ll be interesting to see how this movie will be made. I mean, this current movie (that I’m watching), really, is just a simple story, about two reporters, and how they got the information they got, in order to publish it, to make the nation aware of what was going on, within the current president’s administration. The movie doesn’t try to depict (President) Nixon, or John Mitchell, or Haldeman/Erlichman, etc. Again, it’s really the story of how two young men kept digging, and digging, etc., until it became clear to everyone, that people at the highest level of government thought they were above the law, and had broken (various) laws, knowing that they indeed were breaking the law, etc.

So, the movie that might be made in the next three or four years will not primarily be about President Trump (if the filmmaker is smart about it), but will probably be more about Bob Mueller ”team”, and the Special Prosecutor’s Investigation, walking us through the events of 2015 – 20xx, and, how we got to where we are “today”.

If you don’t think a movie will be made, let me remind you that we’ve already seen movies regarding George Bush (“W”); Dick Chaney (“Vice”); Bernie Madoff; Enron (“The smartest guys in the room”); Valerie Plane Wilson (”Fair game” & “Nothing but the truth” – the leaking of a CIA agent’s identity scandal); “Game Change” (John McCain’s presidential election campaign), and/or other scandals or political events. Of course there will be a movie made regarding this administration – we’ve already seen the publishing of Bob Woodward’s first book regarding the present administration: “Fear”. Since Mr. Woodward wrote four books on the Bush Administration, and two books on the Obama Administration, I’m pretty sure, we might be seeing a second book on the Trump Administration (if Bob is still writing two yrs from now).

So, a movie coming out??
