Friend’s thoughts about marriage equality

More thoughts about marriage equality and the bible by my friend Tina Weems Dolechek. Thanks, Tina, for sharing.

I have been reading many posts lately about marriage equality and how the Bible says marriage is between a man and a woman. I thought I would do a little Bible research myself. This is what I found. The Bible is ok with men having more than one wife. King David, remember David The Great, he had a lot of wives and concubines. Then there is Jacob who was married to sisters, both of them at the same time. In fact there were a lot of men in the Bible who had many wives and concubines. The Bible states marrying outside your race or religion is a sin. The Bible states that wives must be submissive to their husbands. I must be a big ol’ sinner because there is no way I am going to be submissive to my husband. We have a partnership. I don’t think I have to worry about his getting another wife because I cost him too much money. If you believe what the Bible says about marriage then you have to believe it is ok for your husband to have as many wives and concubines as he wants. Also, whether same sex couples can marry is a matter of ones civil and human rights. Religion and politics have no place together. The Supreme Courts decision should not have been based on what the Bible says. I don’t want the Supreme Court making decisions based on religion. While I was doing my Bible research on gay marriage I came across this little tidbit, James 4:12 – There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
