Recommendations: shows, food, movies, etc

Today’s miscellaneous Recommendations:

Chilies restaurant: margarita chicken tex mex bowl, combined with their white queso appetizer and salsa on top is just DELISH! Yum.

Locally, here in “beautiful downtown” Apple Valley, a “smash burgers” opened up a yr or so ago. I’ve eaten there a couple of times (but not recently), but they’re pretty good. On the other hand, “Five guys” opened up their burger joint in the former Archivers storefront recently, and I scoped them out today – ordered a cheeseburger. They offer two “everything” choices: everything, and “all the way”. I forget which is which, but one of them has about 6-8 things on it, the other has an additional 6-8 things (like A1 or BBQ, banana peppers[?], etc.). The one with the smaller number has lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mushrooms, and who knows what else, BUT it was just fantastic! I’m not a burger aficionado (Burger King is more my style), but this burger was just simply the best I’ve had in a long time. And, to top it off, the fries were awesome as well.

Ok, second to last, you may remember I saw Lilly Tomlin a few weeks ago at Orchestra Hall. She had a question/answer session after her show. An audience member mentioned her new show “Grace and Frankie”, wondering if a second season would be coming. I’d vaguely heard something about this show previously, but didn’t pay attention at the time. So, I started watching it, not knowing what it really is about, and I don’t want to give it away, but if you’re open minded about LGBT, and like comedies, you might enjoy this show. It’s either Amazon or Netflix, can’t remember. Stars Lilly, Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen, and Sam Waterston. In the beginning, Martin Sheen (and maybe the whole crew) seems a bit stiff, but after a couple of shows, the acting and characters get better. The story line is a hoot, and Lilly & Jane really play well off each other (kinda like 9 to 5).

And, lastly, I saw “The woman in gold” movie last night. It’s not an action movie, but is really well done given the subject. Hellen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds.

It’s interesting, I usually like to scope out (Wikipedia, etc.) shows or movies before seeing them, to at least know the subject, but both with this movie, and with “Grace & Frankie”, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by going in “blind”.

Well, that’s it for today…other than to say congratulations to Sam H. and Vic C., who got married today. Two of the really nicest people I know found each other a few years ago, and they are now together and I wish them many, many happy years together.
