Movie Reviews

ok, since it’s raining cats and dogs outside; tonight apparently is movie review night. I’ve been somewhat lax with sharing some of the “great” movies I’ve recently seen. For good reason, since there is only one I saw at the “movies” (last week) and two were recent iTunes rentals.

Let’s do the easiest and most current movie first. “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation”. If you liked any of the previous ones, you’ll love this one as well. Yes, Tommy (“Ethan Hunt”) Cruise is getting old in the tooth (like Pierce B. ala James Bond), but, Tom still does a great job, and the story is, suspenseful – keeps you in your seat. Simon Pegg is, well, Simon Pegg, love him.

Second movie apparently was Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s last movie before he passed. I really do miss him and his acting. Big sigh. The movie is “A most wanted man”. Cops & Robbers (~sort of~). Mr Hoffman is a fantastic actor in this movie. Don’t want to ruin it for anyone, so, if you see this on , you should try to see it.

Third movie – just finished watching it. And, it is so absolutely , I cannot tell you anything at all without giving it away. I guess you do need to know the name of it though (“The Perfect Host”). I have to say this first, I was flipping thru the various movies, and I do put a lot of weight on “Rotten Tomato” scores – I’m being sincere here. This movie had a (low) score of just 45%, which usually indicates to me to give it a pass. What grabbed my attention was it starred David Hyde Pierce – I’ve always liked him, and this story suited him very well, and the storyline description also caught my interest. I’m glad I disregarded the Rotten Tomato’s score – it was so much better than what the professional reviewer’s thought of it. I would rate it a 7 (of ten). There are times when I read the plot of a movie via Wikipedia – but in this case, I did not, and I am so glad! Let’s just say, this is kinda a cops and robber’s story, but with a lot of twists. In the middle third, there is some unpleasentness which may cause you to think “this just isn’t for me” – but I assure you, if you can get past the “blood&gore”, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the last thirty or forty (?) minutes. I only want to say, think “Black Comedy”, before turning it off due to the stuff in the middle. Yes, it’s dark, but…you never know. I thought it was just hilarious.

If you see (or have seen) any of these, I would like to hear your opinion(s).
