NPR story about Republican leaders not attending their own convention

This, to me, is a very interesting story (the attached NPR story).

Apparently there is something “important” going on, in the city of Cleveland, Ohio this week.

Some sort of “convention”.

No, I don’t think it’s the Model Railroading convention.

Nor, is it “ComicCon”.

I wonder which convention it is?

Uh.

Is it the “Keystone cops” convention??

Maybe it’s the “three stooges” convention.

No, don’t think so.

Oh, I remember, it’s those guys with the “who’s on first” routine.

(you know, Laurel and Hardy.)

No, that doesn’t seem right to me.

Oh, I remember now.

It’s something called the “Republican National Convention”.

Not sure what the purpose is, for their meeting together.

Because, it seems a lot of the former major players aren’t going.

Such as:

Former President George W. Bush.
Former President George H. W. Bush.
Former 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee, Mitt Romney.
Former 2008 Republican Presidential Nominee, Senator John McCain.
Former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush.
Current Ohio Governor, John Kasish (where the convention is being held).

I think, even the 2012 former republican vice presidential candidate isn’t coming (I totally forget their name – can someone remind me?)

I could list other former leaders of the Republican Party (such as former Secretary of State, Condi Rice, etc.), who aren’t showing up, but I’ll let you read the article.

And, according to this article, a huge number of current Republican Senators, as well as a number of current sitting republican governors, and current members of congress can’t seem to get away from their current jobs, their current duties, to attend this convention – which supposedly is a major event for them, held every four years.

There apparently are all sorts of valid and very important reasons for not attending.

Such as:

“I’ll be on vacation, fishing.” (I kid you not.)

Etc.

I’m truly scratching my head here.

Isn’t this the event where the Republican Party comes together to show UNITY?

To show Republican Party LOYALTY?

To show SUPPORT for the Republican Party Presidential Nominee?

What the heck is going on, I wonder??

After the last six, nine or even twelve months, of saying you truly want this truly wonderful human being to be your party’s next presidential candidate (AND, this country’s next President), you’re all walking away from him now, at this LATE STAGE in the f’ing game??

COME ON.

REALLY?

I can’t wait until the end of this week.

I cannot wait until November.

(Can you all say: “Landslide”?)

(As in, there will be a Democratic LANDSLIDE this November, due to your party’s ineptness in choosing a true (and great) republican leader as a presidential candidate to lead your party.)
